The Programme
The Programme runs for 14 months and forms the core element of the overall scheme.
Purpose
To identify and develop talented people from under represented groups with the potential to reach the Senior Civil Service
Objectives
The scheme will enable participants to:
- develop skills across the Professional Skills for Government framework required of a member of a Senior Civil Service;
- enhance their personal development as leaders and enhance their impact and effectiveness in their organisation at a senior level;
- develop a foundation for personal and career development as graduates of the scheme and potential members of the SCS; and
- recognise the importance of continuous professional development and the value of coaching, peer learning, and other action-centred learning techniques.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the scheme participants will have:
- successfully completed a business critical project that will impact in their organisation or across government;
- develop key intervention skills which allow them to take on and lead local issues across the business;
- acquire tools and techniques that they can apply in the workplace;
- develop a network of peers that can act as a support mechanism during and after the programme;
- develop and acquire PSG competencies at Grade 6/SCS level, and be able to apply learning to real life issues;
- develop a personal understanding of the leadership framework and demonstrate the skills, attributes and leadership behaviour expected at SCS level; and
- made significant improvement in all the areas identified in your Leadership Development Plan, and create an ongoing development plan covering your future career.
Learning Compacts
Leaders UnLtd is the first leadership scheme to use Learning Compacts to develop future leadership talent for the Civil Service. They create an agreement between the participant, line manager and organisation, committing each party to support progress on the scheme.
They also commit the organisation to guarantee that on successful completion of Leaders UnLtd and through meeting job-related performance objectives over a set period of time:
- if you are a woman or from an ethnic minority background, you will be invited to join an appropriate SCS competition;
- if you have a disability, you will be guaranteed an appropriate SCS level interview or participation in an organisational SCS promotion assessment centre.
Appointments, however, will be based on merit.
